President’s Message – January 2012

Dear Neighbors,

As I write this letter, 2011 draws to a close and I am looking forward to 2012.  As the new Board settles into our roles and closes out old business, we embark on tackling the challenges of the New Year.

One of the challenges is California Law SB563, which essentially limits the Board’s ability to conduct business outside of meetings.  While some may find this cumbersome, this will force the HOA to become policy driven, which will improve transparency, fairness and consistency throughout our community.

Part of the New Year tradition is to create resolutions and the Board will be doing this come January, as we set our goals for the coming year.  We welcome your suggestions and ideas and look forward to hearing from you.

One of our main goals is to update the Architectural Guidelines that is the basis of the Village’s unique character.  A professional architect has been retained to assist us in this endeavor.  Our goal is to have an updated set of guidelines that preserves the Village’s uniqueness, while streamlining the submittal process.

This brings me to my next goal–to improve community involvement. As you may have read in the last newsletter we are looking for members of the community to serve on various committees; this is your association and your time and input is valued. In addition, please drop by one of our monthly meetings to provide feedback and understand the issues that affect our neighborhood.

In addition, the Board strives for a balanced budget.  I take my fiduciary responsibility very seriously and take a conservative stance with our HOA funds.  The majority of our budget is spent on streets and landscaping and I believe that the Association needs a professional and long term plan for dealing with these aging assets.  With this long term view in mind, it is also essential that we document the policies and plans of the Board, in order to affect a seamless transition from year to year.

As the year ends, I would like to thank the previous Board and the volunteers who have given their time to make the Village a wonderful place to live and I ask you all to resolve to be more involved in our community.  As my wife, two young sons, and I begin our 7th year in the Village, we look forward to enjoying all our unique community has to offer in the New Year.

Happy Holidays and a Prosperous New Year!
